Anonymous asked: Your work has really evolved! I've loved every step. But i was wondering if you could share any websites that have really helped you, or any kind of reference to get a grip on taking pictures and editing, if you have any info that could help I would love you even more.
Thanks! Hmmm, well I went to sites like flickr a lot to find inspiration, and researched a bunch of older photographers as well. I didn’t use a ton of websites to learn how to take pictures or edit. Phlearn.com is a good one though that I check out somewhat often. It’s by Aaron Nace, and he uploads 5 videos a week teaching photography and photoshop. I’ve learned a lot watching them. I also read (most of at least haha) the books “Understanding Shutter Speed” and “Understanding Exposure” by Bryan Peterson, and they were very helpful for learning a lot about photography. Hope that helps!
freaksgeeksandbeatsdesign asked: Hi :) I just came across your work and am an instant fan. I really want to get better at levitation photography. I was just wondering how you levitated yourself in the photo where you have wings made of the cloth? And how you levitated the stack of books. I have trouble with levitation pictures because of peoples feet.
Thanks! For the wing photo I actually just jumped in the air. I did a photo yesterday that was similar but just higher up, and I brought a step stool and jumped from it. If I stood on something and wanted me to levitate with pointed toes, I would probably take separate photos of my toes pointing, and composite it over my flat feet. For the books, I threw them in the air a bunch of times, and composited the best shots together into the stack :)
Anonymous asked: how did you make the fire face thing?
I made a fake head with a balloon and paper mache on a stick and lit it on fire, and stood in the same spot
Anonymous asked: how did you create the wing look with power paint? Did you have a device that shot it out? or did you throw it up in the air? I love your photos. You are a true talent
Thanks so much! I threw it in the air many, many times until I ran out of powder paint, and had enough shots to make decent wings
Anonymous asked: How do you get that low contrast effect without completely washing out your blacks or the rest of your photos?
I use curves in photoshop. I usually grab my darks (lower left dot) and move it a bit up and to the right. Then I actually up the contrast a bit on the rest of the photo. Kind of like this:

I often play with the Red and Blue curves too. I certainly don’t follow this with every photo, but I do it similar to this pretty often :)
betternamethanyours asked: How did you learn to edit your photos?
Lots and lots of practice. I’m completely self taught, and learned by practicing every day. I really only use very basic tools in photoshop though
