I'm Kyle, I'm 21, and I like taking photos in abandoned houses and forests. I moved to Eugene Oregon from Chicago in January. This blog is all original content. A lot of the shots are self portraits. If you have any questions, comments, etc, I'd love to hear from you!
My separate candids blog is sslivr
Anonymous asked: How do you keep your art protected and away from stealers in the internet or a place like here on tumblr.? Or is it better off my own website?
I don’t do anything to protect my work, and I don’t really feel like its necessary. It does suck when people use your work without crediting you; one time I found a guy who photoshopped himself into one of my photos and submitted it to a contest and he was winning. It was actually really funny, I emailed the contest people then forgot about it. Also I hate when people here on tumblr reblog a photo and remove my credit and then replace it with something like, “Follow my blog for more posts like this!!”. Thats a total jerk move haha. But really, my disdain for watermarks completely outweighs the annoyance of my photos not having credit. I feel like watermarks can take you out of the moment, it is too distracting for me. Also when people post your work without credit, it doesn’t hurt you. More people are seeing your work (even if they don’t know you made it), which is better than them not seeing it at all in my opinion

When I was a kid I always romanticized the idea of running away and fending for myself; maybe living in the forest of finding an old broken home and making it my own.
I returned from an extended trip just recently and while I might not have been scavenging for food, or building huts out of rocks and fallen branches, I would often pull over to the abandoned houses that littered the rural highways and make myself at home. Id share my life temporarily with the animals who burrowed in decaying attics, and familiarize myself with the people who once lived there by looking through old photos and reading old handwritten letters that lay cluttered on the floor. I would sit on old porches and watch the sun set and find the cleanest bed inside to sleep on.
Their relatives left their journals, photos and mementos rotting for decades. A baby book hiding behind a dressed, more than a century old; a collection of pens strapped to the wall; a box of old postcards from a husband in Paris. I feel like piecing together their lives is a last effort to let their memories live on. I spent today visiting some of my favorite abandoned homes near me and it felt like visiting old friends

Anonymous asked: How do you do a portrait like that in the woods? It's wonderful.
Thanks! I had him stand in a light beam and turned the shutter speed way faster so the part of his face that was in the sun was normally exposed and the backround was way underexposed (hence, black)

Anonymous asked: Where do you go to shoot underwater scenes? Like do you go into a local river or pond or something? I'm afraid to go into those because I heard there's like nasty parasites in them?
Most rivers and ponds are too murky to shoot underwater in. The only ones I went to that were clear enough to shoot in were rivers in oregon. Pools are always good, just try to make it look like it wasnt shot in a pool bc that kind of ruins it a bit

spookskulllll-deactivated201310 asked: When is your book going to be released? I'm so excited! I've been a huge fan of your work for almost a year; it's very beautiful and inspiring!
Thank you! I’m excited too, I would guess that it will be out in January, although it mainly depends how long it takes to have them printed and shipped, could be sooner!
